Jiangxi Province
Introduction
“Jiangxi” is a word that means “west of the river” because this province is located on the west of the Ganjiang River. Located in the southern part of China, it stretches along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. The largest and the longest river in Jiangxi, the Gan River, also runs its course from the north to the south of the province, thus Jiangxi is also called “Gan”. It is renowned worldwide as “China’s Capital of Porcelain”.

This beautiful province has a total land area of 166,900 square kilometers (644,440 square miles). It has earned a rightful place in the annals of history because it is also the cradle of the Chinese Revolution. On the east of the province lies Zhejiang and Fujian, with Guangdong in the south, Hunan in the West, while Hubei and Anhui lies in the north. Nanchang City is the provincial capital.

Jiangxi Provice

This southern China province has four distinct seasons. Its springs and winters are often cold while summers are hot and autumns are dry. In January, the average temperature ranges from 3°C - 9°C and 27°C - 31°C in July.

Poyang Lake – it is famous for being China’s largest fresh water lake as well as being the biggest winter home for white cranes. As winter nears, more than two thousand White Cranes flock to Poyang Lake and spend the cold season in the area. The presence of these White Cranes is a sight to behold for any tourist who will have the rare chance to witness this annual scenario. Five rivers, namely, Xinjiang River, Ganjiang River, Xiushui River, Pojiang River, and Fuhe River, all drain into China’s largest freshwater lake.

Mt. Lushan – a summer resort towering over the east side of Poyang Lake. Its lush slopes which are often enveloped by misty fog combined with clear rapid streams and majestic waterfalls will beguile even the seasoned tourist. The mountain is also a maze of out-of-the-way valleys and yawning ravines where one can totally immerse in the splendor of nature.

Jingdezhen – otherwise known as the “Capital of Porcelain” in China. It has been a place where ceramic production was done by local folks for almost 2,000 years. Today, Jingdezhen is still churning out world-class ceramic wares. A day in the place will be well-spent in visiting the pottery factories and ancient kiln sites.

Tengwang Pavilion – the most famous building located south of the mighty Yangtze River.
Ninety-nine percent of the population is made up of the Han nationality. The remaining one percent is composed of the population is made up of 38 other ethnic groups such including the Bai, Hui, Li and She.

Jiangxi Cuisine has evolved to reflect the distinct tastes of local cities including Ganzhou, Jiujiang, and Nanchang.It advocates the use of locally available green and healthy ingredients including the bamboo shoots in Jinggang,wild vegetables, mountain crabs, and pepper.Most of these dishes have a distinct spicy flavor which can be distinguished from the spicy tastes of Sichuan and Hunan Cuisine.

Well-known Jiangxi Cuisine includes Stewed Chicken with Three Cups Sauce, and Sauteed Preserved Pork with Artemisia selengensis.
Mineral deposits such as tungsten ore, lead ore, copper ore, and rock salt abound in Jiangxi. It has also a thriving agricultural sector that makes the province a major producer of tea, rice, mandarin orange, and freshwater fish. World-famous porcelain wares are being exported from Jiangxi to any worldwide destination.

The financial crisis that inundated the worldwide economy greatly affected the economic environment of Jiangxi. However, the growth of its economy surpassed the anticipated rate at the beginning of the year. It’s GDP for the year 2009 reached RMB758.9b
